Caps & Septa Choices

Caps:

For screw-threaded or snap-cap vials, two options are available. The standard blue caps are tested for routine chromatography work and are certified for UV analytical use. Alternatively, the black cap versions are designed for higher sensitivity applications, such as mass spectrometry, and are certified for MS analytical use.

All caps are provided exclusively as part of complete kits, which include the vial, cap, and selected septa. This ensures compatibility, as sourcing vials and caps from different lots can lead to thread misalignment, resulting in poorly fitting assembled sample vials. This issue is a common complaint in both LC and GC labs, even among suppliers claiming to offer dimensionally certified products. Pursuit Scientific ensures that all caps are tested for proper fit with the vials supplied in the packaged kits.

Septa:

PTFE/Silicone septa are used in LC and GC chromatography for their chemical inertness, providing a reliable seal that prevents contamination and sample evaporation. They are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, withstand repeated needle piercings, and can reseal after being punctured. Some septa are pre-slit, allowing for easier and more consistent needle insertion.

Additionally, they maintain their properties across a wide temperature range, ensuring consistency and reproducibility in analytical results. These features make PTFE/Silicone septa ideal for maintaining sample integrity and ensuring accurate, reliable chromatography. The Pursuit Scientific PTFE/silicone Septa are tested by chromatography and Certified as SpectraClean™ UV.

For higher sensitivity chromatography using mass spectrometry the grade of silicone is upgraded, giving the product a clear look vs the white of the usual silicone used for UV work. They are designated as silicone MS to differentiate them from the standard product. The Pursuit Scientific PTFE/silicone MS septa are tested by mass spectrometry and are Certified as SpectraClean™ MS.
